CUNY Kids to Blog For NYTimes

n504080202_5856793_4401Mid-day Monday will bring with it an unusual change in The Times‘ blogging schtick: student blogging. CUNY students, specifically. Fort Greene and Clinton Hill in Brooklyn will be one of the test sites of the local blogging initiative (Jersey’s Maplewood and South Orange neighborhoods form the other) and the topics range from real estate to bars and fashion. The hyperlocal neighborhood blogs will be lead by Times staff, but CUNY kids will contribute regularly. The choice of CUNY over NYU j school is perplexing for certain but the concept is quite interesting and the willingness to take advantage of students’ free (slave) labor a good call on the part of The Times.

*Update: The Times/CUNY collaboration actually makes a bit of sense. As it turns out, it was a CUNY journalism man who came up with the concept, The Times jumped on it and a collaboration was born. Nonetheless, Columbia, Queens College and Setton Hall kids are involved as well at this point, where’s the NYU love?
